Top Ten Tuesday: the best 10 books I’ve read in the last 10 years

A TTT freebie came at the perfect time to list my top 10 favorites from the last decade. I’ve coined it the #top10of10onthe10th Unlike May’s challenge of picking one title from each year, these books I’ve loved reading over the last ten years regardless of pub date. The 2010s {or whatever they’re being called} were a rough decade personally, one of the few bright spots was the quality of books I’ve read. *Note: There are better written and deserving books that I didn’t love (ex. The Underground Railroad) and books I was thrilled over, that lacked exceptional writing (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark); however, each title below holds a special combination of both:

*After laboring over this list I startled at a glaring omission; I left off the Harry Potter books. I hadn’t started them until 2011 (while recovering from cancer treatment) and read the whole series during this decade, one each summer to celebrate traveling another year around the sun. As important as they are to me, I decided to leave the list as is-highlighting other titles while holding Harry and company apart, yet very near and dear to my heart.

  3. I’ve read some from your list. I tried looking at my books, (I started recording my reads at the blog in 2012), and I realize I just can’t do this, LOL. I can’t pick just 10 books.

    1. I hear ya, it’s a bit easier for me bc I was in a reading slump for a couple years. Not to sound too zen about it, but I just went through and let the books ‘choose me’. 😉

  4. I’m am going to attempt to narrow this down to only 10. I agree that the 2010s was a rough decade so I will focus my criteria on simply- most enjoyed/most memorable to me.

    1. I love your list, it has many serious reads. I enjoyed the surprises and complexity of Watchmaker, but didn’t love it. Will you read the second one?
      Before We were Yours and Scarlet Sky will be read by me w/in the next few months–before the movies are made. And of course A Tree Grows in Brooklyn=in my all-time favorite book list❤
