Toes in the water, sunshine on the skin, evenings spent watching blinking fireflies or brilliant fireworks, all the little indulgences that only summer can bring. As it’s arriving soon (in the northern hemisphere), for June, we want to know the special ways you indulge during the summer months. Any activities you look forward to? For some, it involves dodging bugs to searching for respite from soaring temps. But for everyone it means longer daylight hours. What is your summer indulgence?
For me, summer is a time for relaxing on our deck for hours with a book in hand and a cold drink by my side. It’s leisurely walks with the pup and husband in the evenings, occasionally, with a little indulgent hand-holding. It also means an indulgene of possibility: a weekday pool party, why not? An impromptu road trip? I’m game. Last minute baseball or festival tickets? Count me in!
Because my birthday falls at the beginnning of summer, I sometimes overindulge; in ice cream sundaes, grilled foods, and cocktails. This year may reach a new level, with my current five-day New York City vacation celebration. That’s some fine hedonism right there.
Sadly, it won’t be all baseball games, fun trips, and fireworks this summer. We have much neglected home repairs to get to and the initiation of a few projects. I’m hoping for a new kitchen floor but haven’t gotten into the planning stages yet.
One area I’m looking forward to indulging is rekindling a little of my love for cooking and trying new recipes. Summer always seems most conducive to experimenting.
Continuing with gratification, what’s the most indulgent fragrance purchase you have ever made or been gifted? A special bottle of perfume, exclusive wax opening, or pricey, fancy pants candle?
I can’t justify the expensive luxury candles, upwards of $70 dollars for a single one. But spending that chunk of cash on a vendor wax haul is another story. I do love the variety and sampling many different scents, with the possibility of finding a new favorite.
My most spurge-worthy wax purchase is my most recent Sniff My Tarts order, by a mile. What could be more self-indulgent than creating wax blends custom made especially for me? I’m glad that I ordered and can hardly wait until they’re on the way!
Lastly, how would you indulge if $ was no object? It could be a luxe fragrance you desire, a pampering spa package, a legendary retired scent, etc. What is your dream way to treat yo’ self?
*Okay, this may sound strange, but I recently heard about a spa retreat where the guests can care for horses as part of the spa package. At Ste. Anne’s, a Haldimand Hills Spa, in Ontario (Sandra!) an equine experience is offered along with the usual spa amenities. Not having grown up around horses, I’d love the chance to spend time on a horse farm, working with the animals. Mucking the stables and grooming the horses would seem less of a chore if followed by a relaxing soak and hot stone massage. Wouldn’t it? I’d like to find out and hey, if anyone else is game let me know. I asked my friends and they were NOT into it.

Your usual summer plans sound fabulous. Adam, being from Cleveland, was a huge Indians fan. I loved the Braves, so we were always butting heads about baseball. But now we don’t really follow either. Though he is still faithful to the Browns. Your NYC trip will be the perfect birthday experience.
Awwww you aren’t supposed to JUSTIFY anything when you ask if money was no object questions! LOL!! If I knew it was supposed to be realistic I would not have answered mine that way. Ah well. I guess I misunderstood.
That spa sounds like a cool experience. I would want to go just to visit Canada but never to take care of horses. I guess being raised with 200 head of cattle and raising market steers and stuff as a teenager put me off to mucking any more stalls than absolutely necessary. The farming life is worthwhile but not a vacation for me.

Aw no, I LOVED your answers! I only justified the 2nd ?, not the money is no object part. I can’t help it, anytime I don’t get a deal on something like a candle, I have trouble justifying. The SMT customs will break me right out of that because they’re too special to worry about cost.
I guess my lack of horse sense😀 makes me want to be a cowgirl, but only for like, a day or two

The SMT wait is on. I hopped into my sis’s TBG order and got a Fakery Bakery preorder for July, otherwise my summer is a wax haul desert. I hope one of the SMT’s lands sometime in the next 3 months😂
I thought that spa sounded incredibly unique and looks gorgeous.

Five-day NYC birthday trip? Wuh oh, look out! Sounds lovely, though – can’t wait to hear about all the fun you will definitely have.
I have never heard of that spa before (never actually heard of the town it’s in, Grafton, Ontario, actually) but it sounds super cool – what’s wrong with your friends?! 😉 I grew up out in the country on a hobby farm. I was never a horse girl, and the couple of times I tried riding I really hated it, but I like horses in general. I also think horse barns smell pretty darn fantastic. Used to help friends of my parents stable their horses in the evening when we’d go visit. I’d say as long as you’re not afraid of horses or have some weird objection to horse poo (horses gonna poo, guaranteed fact of life) then caring for them can be quite therapeutic. And with the promise of a nice massage afterwards? Actually sounds kind of dope.

Wow! So, what’s a hobby farm exactly?
Some of my friends would like the Canada trip, but my only outdoorsy friend is afraid of horses!😭 My tailbone might not like the riding part either come to think of it, but I just think they are so beautiful. And do love the hay and leather type smells…
NYC was lots of fun! It was fast-paced but I felt weirdly comfortable with it, at least for 4.5 days.

A hobby farm is one that doesn’t have any serious commercial concerns going on (such as dairy, or livestock or big time crops.) So there were a few chickens messing about at one time and a whole bunch of barn cats, but no cows or anything like that. And we had a large garden, but it produced just enough for us. “Hobby” is not quite the right word – they’re a LOT of work, but definitely not as much work as the big farms. Not by a long shot!
I just saw your NYC post – I’m going to go check it out tomorrow in more depth; looks like you had a great (if exhausting) time.

Sorry, can’t say I would find taking care of horses being part of a spa retreat lol. But hey, different strokes for different folks! I’ve had a bad experience with horses as a child so they just aren’t my favorite and neither is mucking out their stalls.
I can’t wait to hear more about your SMT order!! What little we have heard about it, it already sounds amazing!

Oh well, another non-joiner for the horsey spa. Guess my Canadian BoB spa retreat is a pipe dream, lol!
I have to stop myself from thinking about my customs because I’m honestly getting too anxious about when they might be coming and whether they’ll be any good.
I’m just trying to enjoy my stash in the meantime.
